In 2021, the Emperor Haile Selassie Memorial Foundation’s Friends in America (EHSIMFFA) reached an agreement with the Haile Selassie I Memorial Foundation in Ethiopia (EHSIMF) on the roles and responsibilities of each organization in administering the Foundation’s scholarship program for economically disadvantaged university students The program ensures equitable opportunities for promising students, including women and students with disabilities.
In the 2022/23 academic year, the organizations in Ethiopia and the U.S. supported 100 students at 12 Ethiopian universities. All EHSIMFFA-
supported students were first year students, with a commitment made to continue the support for four years until graduation. Despite
disruptions in the 2023/24 academic year, both organizations upheld their commitment to the 100 students. In the 2024/25 academic year,
EHSIMFFA significantly increased its financial support for each student, granting full or partial scholarships to 99 out of 102 students across
17 universities and colleges, including 22 new first-year students replacing the 2024 graduates.
We support economically disadvantaged college students complete their studies and contribute to Ethiopia’s development.
